Latta Introduces Pro-Life Amendment to Appropriations Legislation

Washington, September 6, 2017 | Drew Griffin (202-225-6405)
Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) introduced an amendment to a U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Bill that would protect the life of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome. The amendment would prohibit federal funding to international organizations that promote or perform abortions for the sole reason of a Down syndrome diagnosis. A recent CBS News article highlighted that nearly 100% of Down syndrome diagnoses of unborn children in Iceland leads to them being aborted.

The amendment was not ruled in order to H.R. 3354, the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act, due to House procedural rules.

“Children and adults with Down syndrome are valued members of our society,” said Latta. “Many live independently, work, and attend school. Targeting babies based on a disability is shameful, discriminatory, and inhumane. Every life is precious and must be protected.”
