Latta to Attend Signing of Opioid Legislation at the White House

Legislation authored by Latta, the INFO Act, is a centerpiece of H.R. 6

Washington, October 23, 2018 | Drew Griffin (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) will participate in a White House ceremony tomorrow entitled, “A Year of Historic Action to Combat the Opioid Crisis.” As part of the ceremony, President Trump is expected to sign H.R. 6, the largest legislative effort in U.S. history to combat a single drug crisis. Legislation authored by Latta, the Indexing Narcotics, Fentanyl, and Opioids (INFO) Act, was included in H.R. 6.

“The opioid crisis has been devastating in the state of Ohio, and that’s why H.R. 6 is so important,” said Latta. “The legislation tackles the issue from every angle – interdiction, treatment, prevention, and more. The INFO Act will help our communities access the information and resources they need to combat the epidemic on the ground. We’ve worked tirelessly in Congress to get this bill to the President’s desk, and I appreciate the opportunity to join him as he signs legislation that will save lives in Ohio and around the country.”

The INFO Act will establish a publicly accessible database for information and resources that can be used by health care providers, state and local governments, pharmacists, advocates, and law enforcement. Additionally, the INFO Act will track Federal funding being used to combat the epidemic.

Latta has been a leader in Congress on efforts to combat the opioid epidemic through his role on the Energy and Commerce Committee. For more information on his efforts, click here.
