Latta spectrum bill receives two thumbs up from tech industry
Washington,
May 1, 2011
The Spectrum Innovation Act, H.R. 1622 introduced by Congressman Latta on April 18th has received approval from the High Tech Spectrum Coalition (HTSC), a group of four leading high tech trade associations. The Spectrum Innovation Act incentivizes existing spectrum licensees to voluntarily relinquish a part or all of their spectrum in exchange for a portion of the proceeds generated by the auction.
The letter of support from the HTSC says: "The coalition believes auctions will allow for the best use of our nation's valuable spectrum resources, encourages efficient use of spectrum by licensees, and will generate billions of dollars for the U.S. Treasury. Consequently, we support your Spectrum Innovation Act, H.R. 1622 because it specifically authorizes the Federal Communications Commission to use voluntary incentive auctions to address the looming spectrum crunch." |
