On December 1st, Congressman Bob Latta introduced House Resolution 940, recognizing and honoring the National Guard on the occasion of its 373rd anniversary on December 13, 2009. Yesterday, it passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 401-0.
Congressman Latta made the following statement after passage of the Resolution: “From the American Revolution to the current Global War on Terror, these citizen soldiers have defended the peace and security of America. It is important that we recognize the sacrifices of these service members and provide continued support to ensure its readiness and success.” In addition to thanking members of the National Guard for their service, the Resolution recognizes the Guard’s response following the events of September 11, 2001. Also, the legislation encourages providing necessary resources toward supporting the National Guard’s role in protecting America’s security, honors the families of Guard members by expressing its condolences and gratitude to those who have lost loved ones in their service to our Nation, and recognizes the critical role that the National Guard has played in protecting the freedoms and liberties of America’s citizens. |
