Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement regarding today’s health care summit.
“Instead of coming to today’s health care summit with an open mind and a clean sheet of paper, President Obama and Congressional Democrat Leadership decided to argue with Congressional Republicans on why their health care reform plans are superior to Republican proposals. A majority of Americans continue to disagree with the health care reform proposals passed by Democrats in the House and Senate and incorporated into the President’s new proposal- which should have been reflected today with an honest effort to start from scratch. Unfortunately, Republican members in attendance were the only ones who mentioned the trillion dollar price tags of the Democrat bills financed by billions in tax increases, rationing of health care for millions of Americans, and an unprecedented expansion of federal bureaucracy that will come directly between patients and their doctors as they make health care decisions. Today’s summit could have been the beginning of a true bipartisan effort, but the President and Congressional Democrats chose to continue down the same ‘our way or the highway’ path that will do nothing to bring us any closer to meaningful health care reform.” |
