Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement in response to the intense and public disagreement between the Obama administration and Israeli officials after the announcement of housing construction in East Jerusalem.

“I am very troubled by the recent tone of this administration towards Israel, one of America’s staunchest allies and defender of democracy in the Middle East.  The harsh disapproval of Israel by the administration is damaging to our relationship, and counter-productive to the steps Israel has taken towards peace with her Arab neighbors.  The relationship between the U.S. and Israel is based on our firm commitment to the security of Israel, and this recent condemnation may only embolden Israel’s enemies in the region.  This administration should not further isolate Israel but rather the U.S. should reaffirm America’s commitment to one of our closest allies.”
