LATTA STATEMENT ON RULES COMMITTEE HEARING ON HOME STAR BILL

LATTA STATEMENT ON RULES COMMITTEE HEARING ON HOME STAR BILL

WASHINGTON- Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement after today’s House Committee on Rules rejected an amendment on a party-line vote offered by Congressman Latta that would prevent H.R. 5019, the Home Star bill, from being enacted if there is a negative effect on the national deficit.

“During the Energy and Commerce Committee’s amendment process of the Home Star bill, I introduced a similar amendment because of the serious deficit facing our nation.  With a potential $20 trillion nation debt by 2020 and nation interest payments of over $2 billion a day, we cannot afford to keep passing legislation that is not paid for.

I am disappointed that the Rules Committee would not allow my amendment for consideration during tomorrow’s floor debate.  Congress cannot continue to pass bills that are not paid for and add billions onto our deficit which is expected to run well over $1 trillion this fiscal year.”
