LATTA STATEMENT REGARDING FEMA DECISION TO NOT DECLARE WOOD FULTON AND OTTAWA COUNTIES AS FEDERAL DISASTER AREAS

Washington, June 25, 2010 | David Popp ((202) 225-6405)
Last night, Congressman Bob Latta (R- Bowling Green) sent letters to Governor Strickland and President Obama after learning that FEMA will not declare Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa Counties as federal disaster areas in the wake of the deadly tornados that hit the area on June 5th.  Congressman Latta’s letter to Governor Strickland can be found here and his letter to President Obama can be found here.

Congressman Latta has now sent a total of six letters to state and federal officials asking them to declare these counties as federal disaster areas.  All of Congressman Latta’s letters can be found here.

“I am extremely disappointed to learn of FEMA’s decision to deny the federal major disaster declaration request (you) made for Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa that were affected by the recent tornados.  Although the state has provided relief funds and other aid, I have grave concerns that it is not enough to assist these rural communities in the rebuilding process,” Latta stated in both letters.
