Last night, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) sent letters to President Obama and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate stressing the importance of Governor Strickland’s appeal to FEMA for Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa Counties to be declared federal disaster areas in the wake of the deadly tornados that hit the area on June 5th. Specifically, the letters ask for a copy of the written formulas that were used in the evaluation process for this specific disaster declaration request so that the appeal is successful.
“For an area that is already struggling in this economic downturn, and has been extremely hard hit with high unemployment, the impact caused by these storms is overwhelming. I believe that this appeal is very important especially since items might have been missed in the funding calculations. The information needs to be supplied so that the appeal can be successful. This disaster was extremely severe for these communities, and it is not feasible for the local and state governments to be able to assist individuals to the needed extent with the incredible damage caused to their homes and businesses,” Latta stated in the letters which can be found here and here. Congressman Latta has now sent multiple letters to President Obama and FEMA asking for the prompt approval for Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa Counties to be declared federal disaster areas. All of Congressman Latta’s letters can be found here. -30-
