LATTA STATEMENT ON 2011 MARCH FOR LIFE

Washington, January 24, 2011 | David Popp ((202) 225-6405)
Congressman Bob Latta (R- Bowling Green) made the following statement recognizing the various events that took place today in Washington, D.C. surrounding the 2011 March for Life.

“As an elected official, protecting the sanctity of life has been a cornerstone of my policy objectives over the past twenty years.  Now that Republicans control the majority in the House of Representatives, it is vital that we pass meaningful legislation to ensure important pro-life protections and to correct the last two years of pro-abortion policy passed by Congressional Democrats.

As outlined in the Pledge to America last fall, House Republicans made a commitment to pass pro-life policies by stating ‘…we will permanently end taxpayer funding of abortion and codify the Hyde Amendment…’  This would establish a government-wide prohibition on taxpayer funding of abortion.  Furthermore, the document also pledges “to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values.’  To that end, on January 20th, H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act was introduced, and I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of this important legislation.

It was an honor to speak at the March for Life earlier today on the National Mall and see tens of thousands of Americans united to protect the unborn and be the voice for the rights they deserve.  I was also able to meet with hundreds of constituents from the Fifth District who traveled to Washington for today’s events and speak with them about this important issue.”

NOTE: Congressman Latta is a co-sponsor of the following pieces of pro-life legislation

H.R. 2 – Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act
H.R. 3 - No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act
H.R. 212 – Sanctity of Human Life Act
H.R. 217 - Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act
H.R 358 - Protect Life Act
H.R. 374 - Life at Conception Act
