FCC, Keep Your Hands off the Internet

Washington, D. C., February 16, 2011 | Isabel Santa ((202) 226-4356)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, issued the following statement after a hearing on the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) recent net neutrality ruling with all five of the FCC commissioners:

“The government should not be involved in regulating the Internet, which has flourished not because of government regulation but because private innovation and enterprise has been allowed to develop freely and earnestly.  The premise of the recent net neutrality order is to maintain a fair Internet, but this regulation does no such thing.  Like most regulations, net neutrality increases costs to consumers and Internet Service Providers, and the requirements will only limit competition and suppress innovation.”

Congressman Latta is a cosponsor of H.R. 96, the Internet Freedom Act, which would prohibit the FCC from proposing, promulgating, or issuing any regulations with regard to Internet services.  Additionally, today Congressman Latta signed onto a resolution of disapproval on net neutrality, to be introduced by Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR), as an original cosponsor.
