Latta Statement on June’s Unemployment Numbers

The Labor Department released its latest job numbers today, reporting an unemployment rate of 9.2 percent in June. Employers added 18,000 jobs, which doesn’t meet the 350,000 jobs a month the economy needs to recover, according to the Economic Policy Institute. Upon the release, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement:

“Today’s jobs numbers are bad news for Americans. The jobless rate increased to 9.2 percent, up from 9.1 percent last month, meaning the number of people looking for work increased faster than the number of jobs created. The latest data serves as a reminder that President Obama’s reckless stimulus spending continues not to produce jobs. For every dollar the government spent in the stimulus package, was a dollar diverted from the private sector of the economy.

“To jumpstart the economy, we need to reduce government spending, taxes and the regulatory burdens job creators face.”
