Latta Votes to Reduce Congressional Budget

Today, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) voted to slash Legislative Branch Appropriations by 6.4 percent, below the fiscal year 2011 level. Specifically, the bill cuts Members' Representational Allowances (MRA), salaries, and expenses by $54 million.

“As our nation continues to struggle through this economic downturn, it is unconscionable and irresponsible for Members of Congress to receive larger budgets while so many families are struggling to make ends meet,” said Congressman Latta.

The cuts come on top of existing reductions passed earlier this year where the House decreased MRA’s by five percent.

Furthermore, Congressman Latta introduced a bill, H.R. 431, in January that would repeal automatic pay increases for Members of Congress.
