Latta Statement on FCC Reform Bill
Washington, D.C. ,
November 4, 2011
Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, and Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) today unveiled legislation to improve the way the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) operates by improving transparency, predictability, and consistency as part of Republicans’ ongoing effort to ensure the commission’s work encourages job creation, investment, and innovation. Upon introduction, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement: “Over-regulations are stifling small businesses’ ability to innovate and create jobs in the United States. With the telecommunications industry driving a significant proportion of the economic growth in our country, we should make sure the FCC does not produce regulations that will hamper this sector of the economy. “I applaud Chairman Walden for including a cost-benefit analysis as a requirement for rule-making in the legislation. These are calculations that families and every businesses have to make, and so should the FCC.” On June 22, 2011, Representative Latta introduced H.R. 2289, the FCC Analysis of Benefits and Costs Act. The bill would require the FCC to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of proposed rules. NOTE: To watch Rep. Latta’s committee remarks on the FCC Reform Act, click here. |
