Latta Statement on Joint Select Committee Outcome
Washington, D.C. ,
November 21, 2011
Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement after the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction failed to reach an agreement on reducing the deficit by $1.5 trillion over 10 years, beginning in 2013: “First I want to thank Co-Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) for his leadership in trying to find solutions that stop Washington’s reckless spending. “Unfortunately, the gridlock from the Joint Select Committee is a signal to American taxpayers that it must demand the Congress to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment in order to stop out-of-control spending. Failure to get our fiscal house in order and reduce projected growth in spending leaves our weakened economy at risk of another bond rating downgrade. “The time to act is now. Families across Northwest Ohio and our country are living within their means and the federal government should as well.” |
