Latta Statement on USPS Operational Plans for Toledo

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement after the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced on Monday further measures as part of its restructuring plan in order to overcome its financial challenges:

“Every American is concerned about the future of the Postal Service as it is in America’s economic and social best interest to ensure the long-term vitality of the Postal Service.  In light of its current financial situation, the postal service needs to be reformed in a responsible manner in order to increase its efficiency and financial sustain ability.

“In regards to the continuation of the consolidation reviews of mail processing centers, before any action is taken, it is critical Postmaster Donahue host a public hearing in Toledo to allow citizens and local officials to review the results of their study and voice any concerns and alternative solutions.  I will continue to be actively engaged in the discussions surrounding this review.”

Currently, USPS is studying the Toledo Area Mail Processing facility.

In the past two months, Rep. Latta has been in communication with the Postmaster General and the USPS Office of Inspector General (OIG). On November 3, 2011, Rep. Latta sent a letter to the OIG requesting an independent study of the potential closure of Toledo Area Mail Processing facility.
