Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s visit to Shaker Heights, Ohio today:
"President Obama has again shown inconsistency and proven his disregard for the Constitution by his recess appoint of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In 2005, then Senator Obama speaking on John Bolton’s appointment as Ambassador to the United Nations said, ‘To some degree, he’s damaged goods…Not in the history of United Nations representatives have we ever had a recess appointment, somebody who couldn’t get through a nomination in the Senate. And I think that means that we will have less credibility and ironically be less equipped to reform the United Nations in the way that it needs to be reformed…’
"Furthermore, the President stated that it was time to get people back to work, such as construction workers—I wholeheartedly agree. The President has now only 48 days to approve the Keystone XL pipeline that would directly create 20,000 direct jobs and 118,000 spin-off jobs during the life of the project. I urge the President to support this bipartisan project to put Americans back to work and secure our energy future."
