Latta and President’s Jobs Council Urge for Approval of Keystone Energy Project
Washington,
January 17, 2012
Today, President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness released its year-end report, Road Map to Renewal, pushing for a number of reforms to boost job growth. The council recommends lowering the corporate tax rate, expanding domestic drilling and simplifying the regulatory process, among other proposals. “I am glad to see the council is echoing some of my energy independence priorities in Congress – the approval of the Keystone energy project,” said Congressman Latta. “After 35 consecutive months of unemployment at or above eight percent, President Obama has no choice but to approve Keystone, unless he wants to continue the longest unemployment span since the Great Depression,” added Latta. The report doesn’t mention the Keystone energy project by name but the report alludes that pipeline development is essential for energy independence. The report says, “…thoughtful and timely development of pipeline, transmission and distribution projects are necessary to facilitate the delivery of America’s fuel and electricity and maintain the reliability of our nation’s energy system.” |
