Latta Denounces President Obama’s Decision on Keystone
Washington,
January 18, 2012
Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) released the following statement regarding President Obama’s decision to block the Keystone XL pipeline: “After 35 consecutive months of unemployment at or above eight percent, how can President Obama reject a shovel-ready jobs project that puts our country on a path to less reliance on energy from some countries that don’t like us. A project like Keystone should have been approved. Keystone XL will create tens of thousands of jobs and help thousands of U.S. firms who can benefit from Canada’s energy resource. “The President’s decision is disappointing, given that yesterday the President’s jobs council endorsed pipeline development. This decision by the President clearly shows how out of touch he is with the American people.” Earlier today, Laborers’ International Union of North America said: “The score is job-killers, two; American workers, zero. We are completely and totally disappointed. … Once again, the president has sided with environmentalists instead of blue-collar construction workers — even though environmental concerns were more than adequately addressed. Blue collar construction workers across the U.S. will not forget this.” |
