Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) and David Daniels, Director of Ohio Department of Agriculture will be touring farms throughout northwest Ohio to view areas of distress due to the drought. The first tour will begin in Fulton County on Monday, August 6, 2012. Congressman Latta and Director Daniels will meet with farmers to discuss the problems and issues they have encountered during the drought this year, which has been described as one of the worst droughts of the 21st century. Ohio’s food and agriculture industry yields $105 billion to the state’s economy and Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District is one of the largest agricultural districts in the state. Latta’s office has been in contact with farmers and FSA officials since the onset of the drought in April. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor has northwest Ohio’s drought intensity levels ranging from moderate to severe. After touring the farm in Fulton, Latta and Daniels will head to Defiance County to tour a farm there. ### |
