Latta and Senators Portman and Brown Stress the Importance of Blanchard River Flood Reduction Project

Washington, DC, April 9, 2013 | Laura Strange (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) along with U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) sent a letter to The Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, highlighting the importance of securing funding for the Blanchard River Flood Reduction Project (BRFRP) for the second half of fiscal year 2013.

The project was converted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) 3x3x3 planning process last year. Federal funding is needed to continue the project and is critical to completing the Chief’s Report and keeping the project on track.

“Continuation of the BRFRP is imperative for the safety and economic growth of the Findlay, Hancock County, Ottawa, and Putnam County communities. The BRFRP has been upheld by the Army Corps as an exceptional national example of the coordination between local communities and USACE to find permanent solutions that safeguard against any future flooding,” said Congressman Latta.

According to USACE – Buffalo District, additional funding is needed to continue the project for the remainder of fiscal year 2013.
