Latta: Blanchard River Flooding Funding is Top Priority

Washington, DC, June 11, 2013 | Laura Strange (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today issued the following statement regarding his work to secure funding for the Blanchard River flood reduction project:

“Finding a permanent flood control solution for the Blanchard River is my top priority. As I have emphasized in numerous meetings and letters with the Army Corps, this is a safety and economic issue that directly impacts the Findlay, Hancock County, Ottawa, and Putnam County communities. It is critical to keep this project on track and on a timely pace.”

“The local communities have always been, and continue to be, supportive of the project and an important partner with us on the federal level. I will continue to work until this problem is solved.”

Lydia Mihalik, Mayor of Findlay, made the following comment regarding Congressman Latta’s work on the project, “I have been continuously impressed with the efforts of Congressman Latta and his staff with our project, particularly in the current environment of no earmarks. I am thankful for his leadership and will continue to work together in a collaborative manner for the entire district.”

Latta most recently secured a meeting in April with The Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works to discuss various available options for securing funding for the remainder of fiscal year 2013. U.S. Senator Rob Portman joined Latta for April’s meeting.

Prior to April’s meeting, Congressman Latta, along with members from the Ohio delegation, sent numerous letters to Assistant Secretary Darcy to stress the importance of the project and urge for its timely completion.

In addition to working on this project during the 113th Congress, Latta sent letters in support of the project during previous Congresses.
