Latta Statement on House’s Latest Government Funding Vote

Washington, DC, September 30, 2013 | Laura Strange (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) released the following statement shortly after the House passed for the third time a resolution to keep the government open:

“As depicted by the missed deadlines and delays throughout the implementation of Obamacare, and the waivers and exemptions handed out by the President to big business, political appointees, and Members of Congress, this health care law is not ready for primetime, and in my opinion it is an unworkable approach to health care reform. I am proud to support a continuing resolution that keeps the government open and reflects what I’ve heard from the hardworking citizens in my district – if the President deems it appropriate to continue to offer exemptions from his health care law then he should work with Congress to exempt all Americans.

“This continuing resolution, which will delay the individual mandate and rescind health-insurance subsidies for Members of Congress and the White House, is the third compromise sent to the Senate, and while the Senate was unable to pass a simple appropriations bill this year, and did not pass a budget in nearly four years, they continue to hold their red line and decline to negotiate with the House to keep the government open. I urge the Senate to come to the table, listen to the American people, and swiftly act to pass a continuing resolution tonight.”

The House is expected to remain in session tonight for additional votes on a continuing resolution.
