Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding the House Armed Services Committee’s invitation to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to testify before the Committee regarding the deal the Obama Administration negotiated to return Sergeant Bergdahl in exchange for five senior Taliban detainees. The hearing will be held Wednesday, June 11. “Since the Obama Administration has provided little information regarding the release of five senior Taliban detainees for the safe return of Sergeant Bergdahl, I applaud Chairman McKeon and the House Armed Services Committee for calling Secretary Hagel to testify before the Committee in an effort to get to the bottom of this exchange,” said Latta. “It is a long-standing policy of our country to not negotiate with terrorist groups, and in the release of these five individuals who clearly want to cause us harm, it is our duty to ensure that our troops, as well as all Americans, are not put in harm’s way and that national security laws were not breached in these detainees’ transfer.” ### |
