Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) today released the following statement regarding the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) claim that it cannot locate emails belonging to Lois Lerner prior to 2011, because her computer crashed during the summer of that year. The emails were subpoenaed as part of the U.S. House of Representatives’ investigation into the agency’s admitted targeting of conservative groups last year. “The IRS cannot possibly expect the American people to accept the oldest game in the book,” said Latta. “In today’s technological world, claiming that the dog ate your homework, or in this case that critical emails have been lost to a computer crash, is unacceptable and further demonstrates the agency’s repeated attempts to obstruct Congressional oversight. It is time for the Administration to stop playing games and start cooperating with Congress, so we can get the American people the answers they deserve.”
