Latta Confident in Local Ebola Preparedness, Response Efforts

Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) today visited Mercy St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, to see firsthand local Ebola preparedness and response efforts. Congressman Latta is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over public health issues and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“While the CDC’s information surrounding the Ebola outbreak has been at times inconsistent, my top priority remains ensuring the health and safety of Ohioans and all Americans,” said Latta. “Ebola poses a threat to our public health, but I am confident in our state and local health care networks’ preparedness efforts, their ability to aggressively mitigate Ebola’s risks and their plans to contain it.”

“We must ensure that the lessons learned in Texas are put in practice to stop the spread of Ebola in both the United States and across the globe,” Latta added. “It was helpful to see the procedures in place at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, and I look forward to visiting Paulding County Hospital tomorrow. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure the tough questions are answered and that Ohioans have accurate and up-to-date information.”

Congressman Latta also plans to visit Paulding County Hospital in Paulding, Ohio, tomorrow to examine their Ebola preparedness and response efforts.
