House Works Together to Combat Human Trafficking

Washington, January 27, 2015 | Sarah Criser (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) joined his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in passing several pieces of legislation to combat human trafficking and provide protection to the victims of this abuse and exploitation. Human trafficking is a $32 billion a year industry, which affects millions of children, women and men across the United States and throughout the world. In addition, Toledo has some of the highest human trafficking rates in the nation.

“Human trafficking is a rapidly growing problem that demands our immediate attention,” said Latta. “Instances of human trafficking are multiplying across the country and taking root in our neighborhoods and communities with more than 1,000 victims in Ohio each year. This week’s votes in the House are critical, bipartisan steps to combatting this epidemic at home and abroad, and I applaud my colleagues for working together to end this modern-day form of slavery.”
