Latta Statement on Tax Freedom Day

Today is National Tax Freedom Day; the day when the nation as a whole has earned enough money to pay its federal, state, and local tax bill for the year. Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement in recognition of Tax Freedom Day:

“Tax Freedom Day gives America’s hard-working tax payers the information on how much it costs to fund all levels of government. In 2015, Americans will pay $3.28 trillion in federal taxes and $1.57 trillion in state and local taxes, for a total tax bill of $4.85 trillion, or 31 percent of national income.”

The House passed many bills to help lower taxes and give more transparency to the government. They included the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, bills related to IRS transparency and accountability, a result of allegations that the agency targeted conservative groups seeking nonprofit tax status; the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015; the State and Local Sales Tax Deduction Fairness Act, to make permanent the deduction for state and local sales taxes; the Mortgage Choice Act; and the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act.

“I am committed to reducing the size of government and lowering taxes for all Americans,” Latta said.
