Latta on Planned Parenthood Allegations

"I am disgusted over the series of 7 undercover videos that have been released over the past few months showing top Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of fetal body parts, and altering abortion procedures. The act of abortion is egregious enough, but to alter procedures to procure and then sell organs from the intentional destruction of unborn children is absolutely appalling.  Every unborn life is sacred, and should be protected.

In light of these allegations, I’ve joined many of my colleagues to begin to address this horrific situation. Immediately following the release of the first video, the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, of which I am a member, and the Judiciary Committee launched investigations into these allegations. I applaud these investigations, and joined with over 120 of my colleagues in signing a letter of support.

Additionally, I have signed two letters calling on U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to investigate this matter and appoint an independent counsel to investigate the actions of Planned Parenthood.

In the past I have voted to defund Planned Parenthood – unfortunately, it did not become law. I will continue to monitor the actions of Planned Parenthood, and work to promote policies that ensure the protection of the unborn."
