Latta on Completion of DSTAC Report

Washington, August 28, 2015 | Dan Alfaro (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta issued the following statement regarding the completion of the FCC Downloadable Security Technology Advisory Committee (DSTAC) Report

“I applaud Chairwoman Tritt, and the members of DSTAC, for completing their report on new software focused methods for securing video content."

The development of market-based security solutions ensures continued innovation by this diverse industry, and protects consumers from additional costs brought about by bureaucratic mandates on security technology.

Millions of American consumers utilize the growing number of MVPD launched apps to watch video through smartphones, tablets, gaming systems, Smart TVs and more, and I am glad to see that highlighted in the report. The protection of this growing, vibrant industry will allow future technologies to develop and, in turn, create a myriad of options for American consumers.”

While the completion of this report is commendable, my concerns remain with how the Commission strayed from its Congressional mandate by not solely reporting on the downloadable security regime. The completion of this report is, however, a good first step.”
