Congressmen Latta, Green Urge FCC Chairman to Follow Congressional Mandate

On Thursday, June 18, Congressman Robert E. Latta (R-OH) and Congressman Gene Green (D-TX) submitted a letter to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler regarding the Downloadable Security Technical Advisory Committee (DSTAC).

DSTAC, a working group established as part of the STELA Reauthorization Act (STELAR) was formed to examine technical issues and make recommendations on a software-based downloadable security system for securing video content.

The letter urging the Commissioner to follow the statutory language of the STELAR Act to ensure DSTAC does not continue to exceed the bounds of its scope of inquiry.

“The limited scope of DSTAC and it’s purpose is clear, and the language that defines it has been agreed upon in both the House and the Senate unanimously,” said Rep. Latta. “Unfortunately, DSTAC has ignored the statutory language in order to resurrect a proposal that has been previously discredited. This is not why Congress directed the FCC to establish this working group, and we urge the Chairman to act to ensure DSTAC does not exceed the bounds of the statute, and to follow the Congressional mandate.”
