Latta Questions NRC Commissioners on Nuclear Legislation

Today, Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) questioned the four Commissioners of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) during a joint hearing of the Subcommittees on Energy and Power and Environment and the Economy.

During the questioning, Latta asked Commissioners about his recently introduced bipartisan legislation with Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA), the Advanced Nuclear Technology Development Act of 2016 (H.R. 4979).

“The future of nuclear power in this country is vital for our national security and energy portfolio.  H.R. 4979 directs the NRC to examine the current regulatory framework to create more certainty for private sector innovators developing advanced nuclear technologies,” said Latta. “The answers received from the Commissioners today encourage me that this legislation is the best next step in providing the regulatory framework needed for the future and I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to advance this legislation.”
