Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today released the following statement in response to Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James’ visit and tour of the 180th Fighter Wing in Toledo, Ohio. The installation is under consideration to base the new F-35A Joint Strike Fighter: "The 180th Fighter Wing continues to be one of the top Air National Guard units in the nation, playing an increasingly important and vital role since 9/11 in defending us both at home and abroad,” said Latta. “The installation, its strategic location, and its first-class men and women and their strong partnership with the local community and State of Ohio make it uniquely qualified to execute the F-35A mission and provide an even greater defense of the homeland." “I thank Secretary James for accepting our invitation to visit Northwest Ohio and see the 180th Fighter Wing first-hand. No Guard unit, state, or community is more ready for this opportunity and I look forward to the Secretary’s final basing decision in the coming months.”
