Latta Statement on Vote to Oppose Regulations Limiting Access to Financial Planning

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement after voting to overturn a Presidential veto of H.J. Res. 88, legislation disapproving of the Department of Labor’s ‘Fiduciary Rule.’ While a majority of the U.S. House of Representatives voted for the legislation by a vote of 239-180, the bill did not reach the required two-thirds majority to overturn the veto.

“It’s disappointing that affordable financial advice will be more difficult to obtain for countless Ohio families due to this misguided and burdensome rule. Once again, we’re seeing a one-size-fits-all approach that doesn’t take into account the needs of Americans that are simply trying to plan for retirement or save for their children’s education. Despite bipartisan opposition, the President’s veto will keep in place this harmful regulation for now.  I’ll continue to look for ways to protect access to quality financial planning that doesn’t increase costs for advisors and their clients.”
