Latta Backs Legislation to Increase Health Care Flexibility and Choice

Today, Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined his colleagues in passing H.R. 1270, the Restoring Access to Medication Act, to increase flexibility and choice for health care consumers. The bill allows the use of health savings accounts (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to purchase over-the-counter (OTC) medication. Under a provision included in Obamacare, a doctor’s prescription was required to use funds in an HSA or FSA, even if the medicine was purchased OTC.

“HSAs and FSAs give Ohioans the ability to save money to help pay for various health care expenses,” said Latta. “It defies logic that a visit to the doctor is required in order for a family to use their own savings to buy aspirin or allergy medication. H.R. 1270 fixes this backwards policy and gives patients more flexibility to meet their health care needs.”
