Latta Applauds Signing of Veterans Legislation Into Law

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) applauded the signing of the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act into law this morning. President Trump signed the legislation, S.1094, after it passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week. The bill reforms the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and allows the VA Secretary to remove, demote, or suspend any VA employee for poor performance or misconduct. It also contains important whistleblower protections.

“The signing of the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act into law will help ensure that our country’s veterans receive the care that they’ve earned,” said Latta. “When a VA employee is able to stay in their role — despite gross misconduct or poor performance — it ultimately harms the veterans that have served our nation. I’m also glad that whistleblower protections were included in the bill because people at the agency with concerns should be able to raise these issues with their leadership. Congress and the administration are working to keep the promises made to veterans, and this legislation is a major step in the right direction.”
