Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), Bowling Green Patrol Post, on a ride-along this morning. The patrol post provides patrol services to Wood and Henry Counties. Topics discussed during the ride-along included efforts to combat opioids and current efforts to keep the highways safer. One point of discussion was the increased rise of ‘drugged driving.’ The number of deaths nationwide from drugged driving crashes recently surpassed the number of those killed in drunken driving accidents.
 
“I truly appreciated the opportunity to ride with the Ohio State Highway Patrol this morning and see the work they are doing to keep our roads safe,” said Latta. “With the increasing numbers of motorists who are impaired due to drug use, their job has become even tougher. Getting a front-seat view of what the men and women in the State Patrol are seeing on a daily basis will help inform me as I work on legislation in the Energy and Commerce Committee to address the opioid crisis and improve highway safety.”
