President Signs Legislation Containing Latta’s Clean Drinking Water Provisions Into Law

Washington, October 23, 2018 | Drew Griffin (202-225-6405)

Congressman Latta released the following statement after his clean water provisions were signed into law as part of the America’s Water Infrastructure Act. The provisions Latta authored provide increased flexibility to state and local governments to meet their specific needs, develop cost-efficient ways to protect drinking water, and ensure funds are utilized efficiently and effectively. More information on the provisions that Latta authored is available here.

“America’s Water Infrastructure Act will upgrade our nation’s waterways, aid the flow of goods, and deliver resources for needed water infrastructure projects,” said Latta. “I worked to make sure that clean water infrastructure provisions were included in the bill, including efforts to help disadvantaged communities modernize their water systems. Eliminating duplicative Federal regulations and allowing more flexibility in the repayment of loans will help Ohio communities undertake projects that can ensure clean, reliable drinking water for their citizens without burdening ratepayers.”

Congressman Latta serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and has been a leader in implementing clean drinking water policies. Previously, he authored legislation, the Drinking Water Protection Act, to create a strategic plan to address algal toxins in drinking water. That legislation was signed into law last Congress.
