Latta: Signing of Landmark Legislation Marks a New Day in the Fight Against the Opioid Epidemic

H.R. 6 includes Latta-authored legislation, the INFO Act, to help Ohio communities combat the opioid crisis

Washington, October 24, 2018 | Drew Griffin (202-225-6405)

Congressman Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined his House and Senate colleagues this afternoon for the signing of H.R. 6, the bipartisan SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. H.R. 6 is the most significant legislative effort to address a single drug epidemic in U.S. history. Included in the legislation was the Latta-authored INFO Act, which will create a one-stop-shop for communities to access information and resources to combat the crisis.

“The signing of H.R. 6 into law means we now have a comprehensive approach to attacking the opioid crisis which has been a scourge to communities across Ohio and the nation,” said Latta. “I’ve strongly advocated for policies that attack the epidemic from every angle and this legislation does just that. It increases efforts to keep fentanyl out of the country, helps prevent addiction, and provides more opportunities for treatment. Legislation I authored, the INFO Act, will help our communities in Ohio better access information and resources they need.

“This was a true bipartisan effort in Congress which was aided by the President’s leadership. We’re all united in our goal to defeat this epidemic and the signing of this legislation is a new day in this fight. Failure is not an option when it comes to this crisis.”
