Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), Republican Leader of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, today questioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioners during a hearing entitled “Accountability and Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission.” Congressman Latta’s questioning focused on broadband infrastructure and ending robocalls -- two issues he’s leading on in committee with bipartisan legislation. His Broadband Mapping After Scrutiny (MAPS) Act would require the FCC to establish a challenge process to verify fixed and mobile broadband service coverage data. His Support Tools to Obliterate Pesky (STOP) Robocalls Act takes action to combat the nuisance that Americans are facing from illegal robocalls. Key Quotes from Congressman Latta’s Remarks: “I think it’s safe to say that there is more agreement on the issues I just mentioned than disagreement. We can all agree on the importance of bringing the benefits of broadband to all Americans, especially rural Americans. But, despite the work from this committee and the FCC, we still have members on both sides of the aisle whose constituents lack broadband.” “Another issue with broad bipartisan support is the need to stop the scourge of illegal robocalls. They’re not wanted. They’re tricking people into scams. And it’s costing Americans billions of dollars. It’s one of the biggest issues I hear out in the district, and it is affecting everyone. At our hearing on this topic last month, it became clear that my district is not unique in these concerns. We must -- and will -- do everything in our power to stop the annoying and illegal robocalls, while protecting the technology for the life-saving, pro-consumer services people use and need.” Click here to watch the full exchange. ### |
