Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today sent a letter to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation Bill Northey about the continued rain in Ohio. Click here for a copy of the letter. 

In his letter, he asks for clarification on the assistance process to help ease the uncertainty farmers are facing. He also extends an invitation to the Under Secretary and USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue to visit the 5th Congressional District to survey the situation and hear from farmers in person. 

“The rainfall in Ohio has been relentless, and our farmers are paying the price,” said Latta. “This has been a tough planting season, but we’re going to get through this together. I’m pleased with the responsiveness of the USDA and our governor, and trust they will do everything within their power to help our farmers and assuage their concerns.”

Congressman Latta has been in close contact with the USDA and Governor Mike DeWine’s office regarding farmers’ concerns about their crops. On June 13, he sent a letter to United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue regarding the severe and unprecedented rainfall impacting farmers in Northwest and West Central Ohio. The letter urged Secretary Perdue to approve an agriculture disaster declaration should the agency receive a request for one from the state of Ohio. Governor DeWine sent a request letter to the USDA.
