Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today sent a letter to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate requesting the rationale and reasoning as soon as possible behind FEMA’s decision to not declare Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa Counties as federal disaster areas in the wake of the June tornados that hit the area. A copy of Congressman Latta’s letter can be found here.
Congressman Latta is requesting information from both the June 9th application and July 22nd appeal filed by Governor Strickland as to why neither application was granted approval. “This destruction has left these communities in a very difficult situation, and it is troublesome that FEMA could not provide funding to assist them. As I expressed in the previous letters to FEMA, I am very concerned that all of the destruction that occurred was not adequately considered in FEMA’s decision. Supplemental federal assistance is absolutely necessary to assist these local governments and communities rebuild after these storms,” Latta stated in the letter. -30-
