Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement after voting against an adjournment resolution today.  The “no” vote on the adjournment resolution signifies Congressman Latta’s support for Congress to not adjourn, but rather stay in session, so that the House can debate the current tax rates set to expire at the end of this year.  

“My vote against the adjournment resolution today was on behalf of my constituents and the majority of Americans who want Congress to stay in session and stop all of the tax increases set to take effect on January 1st.  I have repeatedly called for these tax cuts to be passed permanently.   

Without action this week, families and businesses across America are still left wondering what will happen to them at the end of the year.  By delaying this vote until November or December, we are one step closer to the largest tax increase in our nation's history if no action is taken before December 31, 2010 when these tax cuts will expire.  

As I continue to tour businesses large and small across my district, I ask them what Congress needs to do to get our economy back on track. They tell me over and over that Congress continues to kill the entrepreneurial spirit that has made our country great.  It is time for Congress to pass legislation that will help stimulate real economic growth, and stop these tax hikes.”   

NOTE: Last week, Congressman Latta issued a statement in support of the Pledge to America, which is the governing document that outlines the legislative priorities of House Republicans for this Congress.  One of these priorities is the extension of these tax cuts, which is one of many outlined at http://pledge.gop.gov.
