Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) today issued the following statement on the one year anniversary of the passage of Obamacare:

“Against the wishes of the American people the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, was passed into law a year ago today. 

“With promises of providing more jobs and being more widely affordable and available, it has proved to do just the opposite. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that Obamacare will eliminate 800,000 jobs by 2021 and will cost more than one trillion dollars in the first eight years.

“Obamacare is restraining an economic recovery and destroying jobs by burdening entrepreneurs and employers with tax increases and costly regulations.  The Democrats’ health care plan must be replaced with common-sense reform that allows for lower health care premiums through increased competition and choice, protects patients with pre-existing conditions, and reforms the medical liability system to help get rid of junk lawsuits.”

On January 19, 2011 the House repealed Obamacare with bipartisan support by a vote of 245-189, fulfilling another element of Republicans’ Pledge to America.
