Latta Statement on September Jobs Report

Today, the Labor Department released its latest jobs numbers, reporting the unemployment rate at 7.8 percent. 114,000 new jobs were added during the month of September, while manufacturing lost 16,000 jobs. Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement on the September jobs report:

“Today’s unemployment report is far from the 150,000 new jobs we need to create each month just to keep pace with the population growth. This month’s report showed the jobs number for those underemployed and those who have given up looking for work remained at 14.7 percent, while the latest economic report showed a decline in economic growth by 1.3 percent. President Obama’s economic policies continue to weaken our economy, putting us in the slowest path to recovery in 70 years.

“Each time I visit with small business owners in Ohio, my faith in the American entrepreneurial spirit is renewed by the hard work and ingenuity of these individuals, who have dedicated their lives and capital to build their businesses and employ people within their communities.

“Democrats in Washington have put politics before the nation’s jobs and debt crisis for too long. I remain determined to working towards policies that reduce federal spending, cut the over-burdensome regulations on farms and business owners, and provide incentives for these businesses to grow, expand, and put America back on the path to economic prosperity,” concluded Latta.
