Latta Statement on State of the Union Address

Washington, DC, February 12, 2013 | Laura Strange (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following reaction statement following President Obama’s State of the Union address:

“The policies outlined tonight by President Obama are repackaged versions of the same policies that we’ve seen for the past four years, and those policies are not working for the American people. 22.7 million Americans are unemployed, underemployed or who have given up looking for work, economic growth slowed last quarter, gas prices are $1.80 higher than when the President took office, and $5.9 trillion has been added to the national debt under President Obama.

“Hardworking taxpayers in Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District, and throughout the nation, are looking to Washington to get to work to create jobs and fix the economy. Neglecting to rein in the out-of-control federal spending and raising taxes does not create economic growth, but rather creates uncertainty for our job creators. In order to help all Americans, we must grow our economy through real tax reform, balancing our national budget, and curtailing costly and over-burdensome regulations.

“I welcome the opportunity to work with my colleagues in Washington, including the President and Senate Democrats, to implement pro-growth policies that will put Americans back to work, restore economic prosperity, and rebuild this country for our future generations.”
