Latta Reacts to Government Shutdown

Washington, DC, October 1, 2013 | Laura Strange (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) released the following statement regarding the lapse in appropriations for the fiscal year:

"The House has now acted multiple times to avert a government shutdown. Yet, Harry Reid and Senate Democrats went home this past weekend and remain unwilling to negotiate and work with the House to find a solution that keeps the government open while protecting hardworking Americans from the negative impacts of Obamacare. The American people deserve better than a President who is willing to negotiate with Iran rather than Members of Congress and a United States Senate that is more interested in protecting sweetheart deals for lawmakers. I urge President Obama, Senator Reid and Minority Leader Pelosi to join with House Republicans by embracing a plan that restores fiscal discipline, protects the American people from the ill fated affects of President Obama's health care law, and promotes fairness for individuals and businesses so we can end this unfortunate shutdown."
