Latta Cosponsors Health Exchange Security and

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) has cosponsored H.R. 3811, the Health Exchange Security and Transparency Act.  This legislation, sponsored by Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA), would require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to notify individuals if their personal information has been stolen or unlawfully accessed through a federal or state exchange system.  This notification must be done no later than two business days after the discovery.

“Hearings in the House Energy & Commerce Committee, on which I serve, revealed that the Administration did not complete adequate security testing prior to healthcare.gov going live on October 1st,” Latta said. “Americans deserve to know if their personal information is put at risk due to Obamacare, and this legislation will ensure that HHS gives notice to individuals when their information is jeopardized.”

“Furthermore, prompt action on this important legislation is needed, so that American’s information is safe and secure.  I encourage HHS to work to ensure that individual’s personal information is protected in the health care exchanges.”
