Latta Recognizes Northwest Ohio Start-Up

Washington, August 5, 2014 | Sarah Criser (202-225-6405)

Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) today released the following statement recognizing Northwest Ohio’s burgeoning start-up scene in honor of Start-Up Day Across America – a day to recognize the impacts start-ups have on local economies.

“Start-ups may stem from an initial great idea, but they also require support from their local communities and educational institutions,” said Latta. “As we look to diversify our nation’s economy, our technology sector presents prime opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. Start-ups, like Roost, demonstrate the potential Northwest Ohio has as an incubator for these new technologies, and I look forward to continuing to foster an environment where American ingenuity can thrive in our own backyard.”

Roost is a Northwest Ohio company that is helping bring push notifications to the web. The company is currently participating in Y Combinator, Silicon Valley’s elite start-up accelerator program that has helped nurture some of the technology industry’s bigger success stories, such as Dropbox, Airbnb and reddit.

Roost co-founder, Tim Varner, recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to showcase the company’s push notification technology. Last week, Congressman Latta incorporated Roost into his Congressional website, making him the first elected official to utilize this new technology.
