Media Advisory: Rep. Bob Latta and Rep. Bill Johnson to Host 21st Century Cures Roundtable

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) and Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) today announced that they will host a 21st Century Cures roundtable at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital to gain input and seek new ideas as to how Congress can best accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of new cures. The event, which is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, builds off the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s #Path2Cures initiative and will feature representatives from science, research and health care.

"Innovation in health care is occurring at a rapid rate," said Latta. "By bringing together key stakeholders in Ohio's health care, science and research fields, Congressman Johnson and I look forward to discussing how we can close the gap between our research efforts and the implementation of therapies to accelerate the #Path2Cures and save lives. We must embrace today's technology when developing tomorrow's cures, and this forum will explore how our state can not only play a role in delivering new treatments to patients, but also lead in these efforts."

“I’m looking forward to hosting this roundtable with Congressman Latta,"said Johnson. "It will serve as an important forum for discussion about all the ground-breaking research leading universities and organizations across the state of Ohio are conducting to deliver the promise of new treatments to patients. I’m also looking forward to hearing ideas from other organizations as to how Congress can help foster an environment of success in the U.S. for biomedical innovation."
